Shortly after accepting her boyfriend’s proposal, a woman tragically fell to her death from a cliff in northwestern Turkey.
Yesim Demir, 39, and her partner Nizamettin Gursu were at a romantic cliffside location to watch the sunset when the unfortunate incident occurred on July 6.
Gursu had briefly left to retrieve food and drinks from the car when he heard a scream and rushed back to find that Demir had fallen approximately 104 ft from the cliff edge.
Despite his efforts to seek assistance, Demir was pronounced dead after resuscitation attempts that lasted 45 minutes.
According to friends of the woman, the cliff at Polente Cape in Canakkale was a popular spot for admiring the scenery, but they highlighted the lack of safety measures at the site, including the absence of a protective fence.
“This is a place where everyone comes and watches the sunset. However, the roads are very bad and there is no precaution on the edge of the cliff. A fence should be drawn here, precautions should be taken,”
Gursu shared with local media that the couple had chosen the location to create a romantic memory after their engagement and had consumed alcohol before the tragic accident happened.
Authorities closed off the area immediately and launched an investigation, allowing controlled access to the site again on July 15.
